Afterword

Julie Dore – Speaker

Introduction

·      ‘Prepping for School Success – A Snapshot’ (with 25 pages) is the condensed version of my book ‘Prepping for School Success’ (with 250 pages)

·      It could be called the ‘Pamphlet Version’ or ‘Dot Points for Dads’

Chapter 1 – My Story

·      I am a primary school teacher, a mum of two young children and a FIFO wife

·      I have taught Prep to Year 7 and have a Bachelor of Education (Early Childhood)

·      I started writing with a children’s picture book called ‘Fly in, Fly out’ that helps children understand the jargon that FIFO workers use

·      I wrote ‘Prepping for School Success’ as I wanted other parents and children to be more confident, successful and happy at school

School Bags, Uniforms & Shoes

·      Get one that fits ALL of their things inside and make your child carry it

·      Uniforms are expensive! Buy second hand ones if you can

 School costs

·      Approximate cost for a first year of school in tuition fees (not inc. stationery, uniforms, etc): State Schools $100; Catholic Schools $2,700; Private Schools $9,500

Special days

·      Keep $1 coins in the car for ‘gold coin donation’ days, there’s a lot of them
